The SToryThere I was sitting in prison. The year was 2008 and after 4 months at the county jail I found my self on the prison yard for the first time. I was scared, and had asked God to help this prison trip benefit him in some way. I found my self deep in the word of God, but lost in where I wanted to be in life. I was disgruntled with my self for becoming incarcerated, but I knew there was more to life for me than just prison.
One day I had a friend tell me about "Purpose Driven Life", a book by Rick Warren. I picked it up at the prison library, and started to take the 40 day journey. In that 40 days it was reviled to me that I was a slack and all I ever did in my life was play lots of video games. Even from a young age video games provided a way out of my depressing and hurtful child hood. What did this have to do with my purpose in life though? I also realized that God does not care what we do in life as long as what we do is for him. This left me with a taste of success in my mouth. I believed then, and I still do now, that God would make me a success story if I put him in front of all I do. What was I to do though? One day, after the 40 day adventure, it hit me like a ton of bricks. God had a mission for me to accomplish in life, and it was to make a video game that helped people grow. I would have these conversations with fellow Christians at Bible Study or on the prison yard, and I knew that even my self needed to grow closer to God. I also knew that others needed the same thing. I asked God to reveal to me what the game needed to look like. God revealed to me over the next couple of years what a game of this magnitude would look like. It would need to have the same growth mechanics as the bible. It would need to share personal story with the player, and it would need to allow different people to interpret it in different ways. It also needed to be fun. And there needed to be something for every one. My past experience in playing MMO RPG's such as Everquest and World of Warcraft presented an amazing base for the type of game I needed to make. I spent the next 3 years in prison making a book based game that I called Ultraverse. Remarkable Universe will be an electronic version of Ultraverse. I have moved away from the name Ultraverse due to conflict of interest. It turns out that there is a comic book made by that name, and I do not want to miss lead the user. I want to also be clear that Remarkable Universe will be designed and made with religious leaders as a target for marketing this product. I do plan on giving a free copy of the game to any religious leader that wants one. The first one is always free. If it changes that persons life, then the hope is that they will see a need to purchase many copy's of the game in order to spread the spiritual growth that it promotes. I know that the above will possibly make lots and lots of money, or no money at all. It is indeed a huge risk. I need to keep in mind that God will provide my needs, and not my wants. I need to stay diligent on what my life goal is, and accomplish it. Life is one heck of a journey, and I hope to teach many many people how to live there own journey through the efforts of making, growing, maintaining, distributing Remarkable Universe. |
